Heavy Equipment Operator

Description

Slack Electrical is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. This position involves safely operating heavy machinery at construction and electrical job sites throughout Southwest Florida. The ideal candidate takes pride in quality work, follows safety procedures, and communicates effectively with crew members and project supervisors.

 

Responsibilities​

  • Operate excavators, skid steers, loaders, backhoes, trenchers, and other heavy equipment.
  • Perform excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling, material handling, and site preparation.
  • Inspect equipment before and after each shift and report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Follow project plans, grade requirements, utility markings, and supervisor instructions.
  • Safely work around underground utilities, electrical systems, vehicles, and construction crews.
  • Assist with equipment loading, unloading, fueling, cleaning, and routine maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate daily equipment and work records.
  • Follow company safety procedures, traffic control requirements, and job-site regulations.
  • Coordinate with supervisors and crew members to complete work efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Qualifications​

  • Previous experience operating heavy construction equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate excavators, skid steers, loaders, backhoes, trenchers, or similar machinery.
  • Knowledge of excavation, grading, trenching, and construction-site safety practices.
  • Ability to read and follow plans, site layouts, and supervisor instructions.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and travel between job sites.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • OSHA or other equipment-safety training is preferred.
  • Commercial driver’s license is preferred but not required.
